Lavender Wisteria Tsumami Kanzashi 224 by japanesesilkflowers Lavender Wisteria Tsumami Kanzashi 224 by japanesesilkflowers
Wisteria (fuji) is a traditional maiko motif for May!

We employ traditional Japanese methods in the creation of kanzashi. This hair ornament is made of silk and hand-dyed. The silk is starched to the stiffness of paper and cut into small square pieces. Each piece is hand folded into a single petal using sharp tweezers and “pinched” in the traditional tsumami method similar to folding origami. Handcrafting hair ornaments in this fashion is time-consuming and labor-intensive.

This beautiful kanzashi has five branches of silk wisteria flowers which create an elegant flow of cascading pink/lavender petals. The tips of each petal are individually hand-dyed. Tiny silk leaves and small curly vines crown the top of the arrangement. This hair ornament is mounted on a 10 cm (4") silver-plated two-prong hairpin. Its graceful appearance is a beautiful complement to any kimono.

Thank you Eva!  We had created another wisteria kanzashi two weeks ago and it sold the day after we posted it in our Etsy shop.  So I decided to create this one a few days ago and someone bought it that same day :)  I am happy that our wisteria seems to be appreciated so well.  May is the month for wisteria so now is an appropriate time to wear it :)
